In a recent nationwide Valentine's Day survey of more than 1,000 Americans, nearly 90 percent of those responding said they would enjoy their Valentine surprising them this year with a romantic dinner for two at home.

Additionally, more than 71 percent of those responding indicated they feel the most loved on Valentine's Day when their Valentine cooks or gives them their favorite foods in lieu of a special gift like flowers or jewelry (less than 29 percent). The survey indicated the top foods used to show love on Valentine's Day include:

Chocolate (60 percent)

Wine (43 percent)

Steak (43 percent)

When it comes to dining at home, 54 percent said they cook dinner together when they celebrate Valentine's Day at home, and cited avoiding crowds (70 percent), quiet (69 percent) and less expensive (71 percent) as advantages to celebrating with dinner at home. When it comes to what's on the menu: steak or roast, surf and turf and lobster/shrimp were the most popular entrees accounting for more than 54 percent of responses.

The survey was commissioned by Omaha Steaks, a fifth-generation, family-owned company known nationwide for the finest in USDA-approved, grain fed beef and gourmet foods.

"Our recent survey proves what we have known for years … a romantic dinner for two that is prepared together and served with love at home —that's what people really want for Valentine's Day," said  Todd Simon, Senior Vice President and family owner of Omaha Steaks. "To make that easy to accomplish, Omaha Steaks offers unique packages like our "Romantic Dinner In" that include everything from filet mignon and lobster tail to chocolate cupcakes for dessert.
