Pastor Shirley Caesar, the reigning queen of gospel music, recently received a long overdue star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Hollywood, California this summer.

Leron Gubler, President and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce opened the induction with highlights of Caesar's career. Born on October 13, 1938, the iconic Dr. Shirley Ann Caesar-Williams began singing gospel music at the age of 10, and has since held an extraordinarily successful gospel music career spanning over six decades as a singer, songwriter, recording artist, and minister. She formerly served as a member on the city council in Durham, North Carolina and heads Shirley Caesar Outreach Ministries serving the community for over 38 years. Caesar has also performed for every U.S. President since Jimmy Carter – just to name a few of her long list of amazing accomplishments throughout her career.

Gubler mentioned how Johnny Grant, the late honorary mayor of Hollywood who formerly presented the stars, would be proud of her because he was also from Caesar's native hometown of North Carolina.

Caesar thanked some of the many people who were instrumental in her life and career, including Lou Barnes, her 94-year old 10th grade school teacher who flew in from North Carolina to witness this history. "I'm very proud of her," said Ms. Barnes before entering a waiting taxi cab after the event.

Yolanda Adams and Kirk Franklin were the two designated speakers at the star unveiling, held on Hollywood Boulevard in the shadow of the legendary Ford Theater. Caesar's star is near those of the late Andrae Crouch, Lucille Ball, and Bebe and Cece Winans. Franklin joked that he's on Caesar's trail in the Grammys count with 10 wins. She immediately retorted, "I've got eleven!" as the gathering crowd broke out in laughter.

Meanwhile, Adams spoke of Caesar's importance in the history of gospel music, including the impact the evangelist/pastor has had on her career.

As Gubler and Caesar kneeled down to lift the star's wooden covering, she was visibly moved with emotion. Once Caesar stood up, she did a "Holy dance" on it. "I'm the first to walk on it," she shouted as the people snapped pictures. Then she lifted her head to the heavens, thanking God.

DeVon Franklin, Tammy Franklin, Desmond Pringle and Marvin Winans, Jr. were among the gospel music notables present. There was also a large group of contingent members from Caesar's home church, Mount Calvary Word of Faith, who made the trek from North Carolina to Hollywood to witness their pastor get her star.

Afterwards, Caesar and about two-dozen family members and friends gathered for a reception lunch at Rock'n Fish at Downtown LA Live. She was still walking on cloud nine giving God the glory, even as she said grace while the food was being served. As Caesar departed the restaurant, actor Yazz, from Fox TV's "Empire," was entering the establishment, greeting her with a warm congrats, and a hug. Caesar's star makes 2,583 on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
